Sebastien Buemi led Renault e.dams to the top of the timesheets in final practice for the Hong Kong Formula E race on Sunday as times tumbled on the second morning of running.
After a disappointing opening race of the 2017/18 season that saw him fail to score any points on Saturday, season two Formula E champion Buemi threw his hat into the ring at the front of the field as times tumbled.
Buemi turned in a fastest time of 1:02.002 to finish three-tenths of a second clear of DS Virgin Racing’s Alex Lynn, having narrowly avoided contact with Antonio Felix da Costa as the two went side-by-side slowly at one stage.
“There were two cars slowing down massively, and there was a part of bodywork on the track with the flag, and I slowed down,” Buemi explained.
“I guess he was on a fast lap and he was annoyed his lap got ruined. What am I going to do? I’m not going to jump into the escape road to let him by.”
Lynn continued DS Virgin’s good form in Hong Kong by taking P2 ahead of Audi’s Lucas di Grassi, with Saturday winner and teammate Sam Bird ending the session fifth overall behind Jean-Eric Vergne. Felix Rosenqvist took sixth for Mahindra ahead of Daniel Abt and Edoardo Mortara, while Nick Heidfeld and Oliver Turvey rounded out the top 10.
