Many of us have been hoping for a standalone Black Widow film for years and it now looks like that could become a reality a Marvel are now developing a script for the movie.
While full production has yet to be given the green light, Marvel have now named Jac Schaeffer as a scriptwriter for the project.
According to Variety, “sources say this is still very early development” but that naming a script writer is the closest they have come to actually giving the movie the go ahead.
They have reported that Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige met with several potential candidates to write the film before choosing Schaeffer.
Jac Schaeffer is best known for writing the script for The Shower, a comedy about an alien invasion during a baby shower. It drew the attention of Anne Hathaway, who is to star in the film.
Schaeffer also penned the disney short “Olaf’s Frozen Adventure”, which garnered many negative reviews. Disney eventually pulled the film from cinemas following a backlash from film goers and critics. She also wrote the script for the upcoming all-female remake of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Nasty Women.
Marvel executives have reportedly met with Scarlett Johansson to discuss what they wanted in the script. Johansson has starred in a number of movies in the Marvel cinematic universe since she first appeared n Iron Man 2 in 2010.
Fans have long complained that she hasn’t had a standalone movie, despite her popularity and prominence in many of the Marvel movies. She has been an invaluable part of the Avengers franchise, and has had some of the best character development and story arcs across the movies, particularly in her Captain America outings.
Marvel have yet to comment on the Black Widow film but it’s definitely looking like it could get the full go ahead in the very near future, we can’t wait.
