“Sony is expected to unveil its first bezel-free smartphone, powered by a Snapdragon 845 SoC at its CES event in January.”
Multiple reports in the past couple of weeks have suggested that Sony will be unveiling its next flagship smartphone at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2018 in January. Ahead of the unveiling, two of the brand’s upcoming flagship devices, the Xperia H8216 and H8266, were recently spotted on benchmarking websites. Now, Sony has finally started sending out invites for its CES 2018 event. The trade show will take place between January 9th and January 12th.
According to earlier reports, Sony could unveil one or two flagship smartphones at CES, which will be powered by Qualcomm’s latest top-notch Snapdragon 845 SoC. One of these devices is rumoured to come with a 5.46-inch or 6-inch 4K display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. The phone is expected to come in two RAM and storage configurations – 4GB + 64GB and 6GB + 128GB, which will support microSD cards for further memory expansion.
Sony’s upcoming bezel-free smartphone with a Snapdragon 845 SoC is also expected to boast dual cameras. The device is rumoured to sport a pair of 12-megapixel snappers at the rear. For selfies, it is expected to feature a 16-megapixel shooter. Just like recently launched Xperia devices, the upcoming Sony flagship is also expected to boot Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. The phone is also rumoured to come with a 3,130mAh battery with fast charging technology, and an IP68 rating for protection against dust and water.
In related news, some alleged renders of the bezel-less Sony Xperia A Edge smartphone recently hit the interwebs. The photos suggested that the phone will flaunt a bezel-less design, and will get more rounded corners compared to previous Sony phones. The rumour mill suggests that this handset will be unveiled in mid-April next year.
